Up at 9 – breakfasted & off about 10 – thro Pre St. Didier Goletta, Pont Seran, along the Isere [Isère], to the petit St. Bernard – lunched at the Hospice on Turkey & cheese, no monks there, church not finished – 2 leagues of descent to Bourg St. Maurice – on [gap] ordered supper – fish &c. – people said no fish to be had, & so cross that dearest had only bread & milk & I part of Turkey – valley beautiful & scenery lovely – Isere makes great ravages in winter –
